About WaveMaker

WaveMaker at Locust Projects supports Miami’s visionary artists with incubator grants for innovative projects that are shared with the public.

Since 2015, WaveMaker has awarded $399,000 in funding to 77 of Miami’s visionary artists, curators, and collectives.  Past WaveMakers include: the BLCK family, Buenezas, Commissioner, Dimensions Variable, EXILE Books, Fresh Art International, Fringe Projects, Obsolete Media Miami, Miami Women’s Artist Archive, Page Slayers, Public Hives, Open Source Art, Sunday Painter, and Third Horizon, among others.

Grantees receive up to $6,000 each in three categories: New Work / Projects, Long-Haul Projects, and Research & Development + Implementation. In the spirit of Locust Projects’ artist-driven mission, WaveMakers take risks outside of art museums and commercial galleries, creating innovative work that is shared with the public via process, presentation, production, or publication.

WaveMaker is made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and is part of its Regional Regranting Program, a national network of 32 regranting partners across the country. Founded in 2015 by the former nonprofit Cannonball, WaveMaker--along with LegalARTLink--has been administered by Locust Projects, Miami’s longest-running alternative art space, since 2017.

About Warhol Foundation

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program supports the creation of independent, non-traditional, public-facing artists’ projects by partnering with leading cultural institutions in communities across the country.  It was designed to serve the sizeable population of informal, non-incorporated artist collectives and independent organizers whose work often falls outside the reach of typical funding sources.

In the thirteen years since it was established, the Foundation has made nearly $10 million dollars in grants to its partners who have funded well over a thousand projects.  Regranting programs currently exist in 32 cities, including:

Albuquerque - 516 ARTS: Fulcrum Fund

Baltimore - Baltimore Arts Realty Corporation: GRIT Fund

Chicago - Threewalls & Gallery 400: Propeller Fund

Cleveland - SPACES: The Satellite Fund

Denver - RedLine Contemporary Art Center: INSITE Fund
