WaveMaker Grants

2020 WAVEMAKER GRANTS ANNOUNCED - SEE FULL LIST OF AWARDEES HERE

WaveMaker Grants at Locust Projects brings critical support to the growing number of innovative, artist-driven endeavors that make up Miami-Dade County’s burgeoning cultural landscape. WaveMaker Grants focuses on experimental, artist-centric projects and activities that operate without traditional funding sources and outside the demands of the marketplace. WaveMaker Grants is made possible by lead support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and is part of the Warhol Foundation's Regional Regranting Program.

WaveMaker Grants provides monetary awards—individual grants of up to $6,000—to foster the development of non-commercial, non-institutional projects that are accessible to the public via process, presentation, production, or publication, and profoundly impact the critical, intellectual, and creative depth of Miami’s vibrant arts community. WaveMaker Grants were originally founded administered by Cannonball. Beginning in 2017, Locust Projects acquired the former Cannonball’s WaveMaker Grant and LegalLink programs. Part of a national network of Warhol-initiated re-granting programs, WaveMaker Grants is the first in the southeast.

Since 2015, WaveMaker has provided $399,000 in new work/project grants as well r+d, implementation and long-haul sustaining grants to 77 indivdiual artist projects and numerous artist-run initiatives such as: BLCK family, Buenezas, Commissioner, Dimensions Variable, EXILE Books, Fresh Art International, Fringe Projects, Obsolete Media Miami, Miami Women’s Artist Archive, Page Slayers, Public Hives, Open Source Art, Sunday Painter, and Third Horizon, among others.

Warhol Regranting

The Regional Regranting Program aims to support vibrant, under-the-radar artistic activity by partnering with leading cultural institutions in communities across the country. The program allows the Foundation to reach the sizeable population of informal, non-incorporated artist collectives and to support their alternative gathering spaces, publications, websites, events, and other projects. The Foundation plans to expand this program with partner organizations in areas where the level of on-the-ground, self-organized artistic activity is highest.

The twelve re-granting programs, developed and facilitated by organizations in Albuquerque, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Portland (OR), Portland (ME) and San Francisco provide grants for the creation and public presentation of new work.
