Kate Gilmore:
By Any Means

Locust Projects is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition at our new space in Miami's Design District. New York based artist Kate Gilmore will present By Any Means, a performance-based video and a site-specific sculpture in which the physicality of architecture and sculpture is pitted against the female body and will.

Gilmore is the sole protagonist in her single-channel videos, where she sets up a difficult physical task to overcome. The videos, always filmed in private, are destructive, comedic and only attempted once. For By Any Means, 2009, Gilmore, donned in feminine dress and heels, will dig, build and climb her way out of a dirt-filled wooden sculpture. The large-scale sculpture will be installed in Locust Projects' adjacent courtyard and will remain on view for the duration of the exhibition. The artist will also present three recent video-based works in this exhibition.
