PUBLIC ART ON VIEW AT LOCUST PROJECTS...
Situated in Locust Projects parking lot, 6' Custom Concrete Bench (2018), is a fully accessible outdoor public bench. Purchased from a commercial online parks and outdoor furnishings retail site, the bench functions as both a virtual and literal concrete ready-made with regards to it's original digital form - to illustrate the potential customizable text feature of the web-based product, the advertised example rendering features the specific USA acronym.
Prior to being hosted at Locust Projects, 6' Custom Concrete Bench (2018) was installed outside of the Bridge Red Studios in North Miami, in conjunction with Scicluna's exhibition "FREE" at Under the Bridge Art Space.
About the Artist:
Utilizing video, installation and sculpture, Miami-based Tom Scicluna references and presents dilemma-like situations. From specific issues of production and hierarchy, to more personal and melancholic expressions, Scicluna deals with the uncertain nature of things and their surrounding conditions. Scicluna questions ideas of artistic control, display, the function of the image and distance that exists between viewer and image, idea and reality.
Recent exhibitions and projects include: Domain at Deering Estate originally installed at Nina Johnson Gallery, Miami; Some Aesthetic Decisions: Centennial Celebration of Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, Mere Facade, Spinello Projects (Miami); and Climate Sync a public artwork realized in conjunction with Miami-Dade Art in Public Places at Oolite Arts (Miami).
