About the Speaker:
Dominic Molon is the Richard Brown Baker Curator of Contemporary Art and Interim Chief Curator at the RISD Museum. He previously served as the Chief Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) St. Louis (2010-2013) and as Curator (and interim Curatorial department head) at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago (1994-2010). Molon has organized exhibitions of such prominent living artists as Martin Boyce (2015), Leslie Hewitt (2011), Liam Gillick (2009), Wolfgang Tillmans (2006), Gillian Wearing (2002), and Sharon Lockhart (2001). He has also curated thematic shows such as Production Site: The Artist’s Studio inside-Out (2010) and Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll Since 1967 (2007) (both at the MCA Chicago.) Recent projects include collection-based projects with Nicole Eisenman and Simone Leigh as part of the RISD Museum’s “Raid the Icebox Now” exhibition initiative (2019-2020) and Any distance between us (2021-2022), a presentation focusing on queer aesthetics and intimacy co-curated with independent curator Stephen Truax. He is currently working on an exhibition of the African-American sculptor Nancy Elizabeth Prophet for 2024 with RISD Museum interim director Sarah Ganz Blythe, and a solo retrospective of Liz Collins with Kate Irvin, Curator of Costume and Textiles at the RISD Museum and independent critic and curator Julia Bryan-Wilson.
