For her Miami debut performance, exhibiting artist Jaye Rhee and members of the Miami Sound Choir deconstruct Righeira’s Vamos a la Playa, a song that disguises an apocalyptic vision of nuclear disaster beneath its bright, carefree melody. Presented as a participatory choral performance, the piece unfolds slowly, with voices embedded within the audience stripping the song down and reconstructing it through collective voice.
This performance complements Rhee’s exhibition, Fragile Terrain, where she reimagines the ocean’s expanse through delicate, pixelated paper forms. Extending this inquiry into sound and performance, she invites the audience to consider how places both real and imagined take shape through longing, nostalgia, and fiction.
