About the speaker:

José Diaz is the Susan BrotmanDeputy Director for Art at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). Priorto joining SAM, Diaz served since 2016 as the Chief Curator at The Andy Warhol Museum inPittsburgh. A specialist in contemporary art and multidisciplinary programming Diaz hasorganized noteworthy exhibitions at The Warhol includingPaola Pivi: I Want ItAll(2022);Fantasy America(2021);Andy Warhol: Revelation(2020);Farhad Moshiri: GoWest(2018);andAndy Warhol Kyoto(2022). Prior to his role at The Warhol, he was theCurator ofExhibitions at The Bass in Miami Beach, where he commissioned public artworks aswell as curated the travelling group exhibitionGOLD(2015). Diaz also held positions at TateLiverpool, working on various exhibitions including Doug Aitken’s first public artwork in the UKand at the Liverpool Biennial where he worked on Tania Bruguera'sArte Cátedra de Conducta.Born in Miami, he received a BA in Art History from San Francisco State University and a MA inCultural History from the University of Liverpool.
