APPLICATIONS FOR 2021 LAB OPEN SOON.
CREATE AND COLLABORATE THIS SUMMER WITH LOCUST PROJECTS!
About LAB: Now in its 11th year, LAB is a unique experience for high school students with an interest in art, design, and exploring creative careers. For four weeks this summer, Locust Projects will invite 30 students from across Miami-Dade County to learn from local artists in a dynamic, fast-paced program. They will dive right into the creative, and practical, aspects of completing a major, collaborative art project.
This year's final project will be a zine plus exhibition at Locust Projects! Students will work together to design the zine, collaborating on visual and text contributions. It will be printed as well as available online. Students will also get to activate Locust Projects' Screening Room with new art works--like videos, paintings, or sculptures--inspired by their zine.
While working on the final project, students will simultaneously participate in workshops with professional artists and complete fast-paced art challenges to explore their creativity, develop ideas, and practice new skills!
Program Dates & Times: This year's program will be virtual with optional in-person activities and field trips. The program will be held July 6-29, 2021 on Tue, Wed, and Thu from 2-4pm.
LAB is free. All students will receive a $500 honorarium to participate (attendance and completing after-hours assignments are required). Students will also receive a Builder Box with art supplies and an artist-designed shirt delivered to their door. Students may be able to receive community service hours for their participation; please ask your school for details.
To apply, students must have completed at least one year of high school by June 2021. Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, as well as graduating 12th graders are all eligible.
Applications are open soon. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2021.
